Valley View Reviews

Lovely property, stunning views . Fitted 10 people easily . Hot tub was great . Fantastic for nipping to ilfracombe and woolacombe. Great find !!!
Suzanne
We had a great weekend at Valley View it was just as we had expected, and was perfect for our extended adult family. The kitchen is very well equipped, the hot tub great even in the rain the only thing we would change was the weather so that we could enjoy more of the lovely garden and view!
We had an absolutely amazing stay at valley view over christmas. The kitchen was fully equipped including cutlery and dishware for younger children, perfect for our 18m old and we had no issues cooking xmas dinner for 12. Kevin was always on hand and went above and beyond, keeping the hot tub maintained and giving us tips as well as offering to go to the shops for us. The house was decorated with a xmas tree which was a lovely touch and impeccably clean including a well maintained lawn. Each garden area was secured with a gate which made it safe for the dogs and toddler. We would definitely book this cottage again, it was a magical christmas!
Rachael
We really enjoyed our stay at Valley View. Description advertised was accurate, facilities great. We had a lot of rain so the hot tub was a welcome treat.
Stephen
Steep, twisty, narrow access to parking area which is 20m from house. Room for 3 not 6 cars cos have to turnaround in this area. Access to garden through a bedroom or steep steps or 40m walk. Garden has lots of brambles and yucca plants NOT ideal for children or pets. Arrival time is especially late and departure time very poor. Dust, under sofas dog also found biscuit pieces. Lots of plates but many with chips. No working tin opener. Property expensive when compared with others of similar size. Hot tub was lovely. Sauna not a steam sauna, and is en suite to a bedroom. Property is tired especially kitchen units and the decking and balustrade. Also steep steps down to garden from bbq area. Garden really needs a lot of serious work to make safe. An FYI for all potential renters is steps! Step into porch, steps from dining room up and down into living room, steps from dining room onto decking area. Steps at top of a flight very steep steps down to lower bedroom. Open staircase up to 2 bedrooms then down another two to the master! Countryside location and view very nice. Kevin was very pleasant, respectful and helpful.
Valley view is a great property for a family or friend group. It is spacious with good facilities and has a fantastic view. We really enjoyed the comfortable living room and the jacuzzi.
Cheryl
We loved it, although a few hairy moments going up to the house on the single track road. House is well equipped, hot tub a wonderful bonus, kitchen well stocked with decent pans, dishes etc. Would recommend for a few couples of large family.
Fabulous property. Wonderful garden for games etc. Sauna & hottub were immaculate & great features well used. Slight challenge is garden access either through a bedroom, some fairly steep steps outside or the very end through a gate. We had a fairly fit 83 year old with us so not an issue......but. Other suggestion some slightly more useful BBQ tools please.. Overall a wonderful stay...
Stella
This is a lovely, spacious and well equipped house with wonderful views and garden, and was ideal for our special family gathering for a week. It is maintained in a spotless condition by Kevin and Jackie who were extremely kind and friendly, and the welcome pack was much appreciated. The hot tub and fire pit were thoroughly enjoyed. The EV charger was also particularly useful given the challenging nature of getting around the narrow local roads.
We had a fabulous week away. Valley view had everything we needed and more. We would love to stay again. Super last minute booking so very surprised to still get a welcome pack. Kevin was very friendly and made sure we had everything we needed.
Andrew
Property was clean and well maintained, there was plenty of room for 3 couples to get their own privacy if required, but good and roomy general areas when getting together. The hot tube got plenty of use with its view across the valley. Though within 1m of the sea, you had to walk or drive on a narrow and unpaved road. The local wildlife certainly make themselves heard, there was a local clattering of jackdaws in a nearby tree.
Doreen
Idyllic settling, peaceful, and. Stunning views of the Valley. Yet close to local shops, and not far, to local beeches. The house offers good size bedrooms, with comfortable and beautiful linen bedding. Nice touch! The garden was inclosed and beautifully kept. And somewhere to chill and read a good book. Or plenty of room for games and for the dog to run around in .... definitely worth a return visit.
Stunning views and well appointed house made our stay at Valley View perfect. The hot tub was a hit with all the family, the kitchen big enough and well stocked for our family of 8. The garden was well maintained. The bedrooms over three floors were perfect for all 3 generations. Would definitely like to return.
Chris And Helen
This is a lovely sunny house and we loved the hot tub and the private deck. The bedrooms were very comfortable and the house was very well equipped. We had a great stay, thank you!
Georgie
We stayed here as 2 families, the house is absolutely fantastic, enough room for everyone. Kids enjoyed the big garden, and so did our 2 little dogs. The welcome hamper was also much appreciated, we enjoyed the prosecco & cakes
Robert
The house was perfect for the 6 adults and 3 children in our party. Good welcoming gifts compared to other properties we have stayed at. Great decking and hot tub. The only issues we had were connected to the garden and steep rough drive up to the car park. One of our 3 cars had difficulty on the first day which resulted in the car being parked in the main lane after excursions for the remainder of the holiday. The garden is fantastic but the dense undergrowth led to many lost balls football and tennis. The goal was at the other end of the garden than shown in the listing. Our youngest child was 7 years old, but younger children would need careful monitoring due to the steep slope on the 2 tiered side of the garden.
Georgette
We only spent a weekend at Valley View but wish it had been much longer! The house is great with lots of space and very well appointed. We utilised all of the amenities there, hot tub, sauna, games room, bbq as well as getting out to the beautiful Woolacombe beach with the dogs! The welcome pack of Prosecco and cake was a thoughtful touch as well! We would definitely love to come back here for a longer stay!
A beautiful big home in the valley. Valley View really lives up to it's name. It's a very big beautiful home surrounded on all side by sweeping views of the valley The property photos are great and accurate, what you don't see though is just how big and quirky the home is. It has lots of amazing features and I loved all the different floor levels throughout the house I would love to have seen and air fryer in the kitchen but 7 burner twin oven range cooker really did do the job. You could of course cook outside on the bbq if you wanted to. The kitchen was FULLY stocked in terms of all other equipment. Lots of plates, cups cutlery Loads of pots, pans, serving dishes, large trays to cook with and way too many cooking utensils to mention. All this and the house even had children's dinner sets. This really is a big quality home and I use the word home because that's how it felt the moment we arrived,. The way this place is being cared for and maintained by the caretaker Kevin really does make this place luxury with a feeling of home. Kevin is always available to help with any questions about the house and the surrounding area. You may even be lucky enough to get hold of Kevin's wife's freshly laid hen eggs. Jackie really does supply the best eggs in town. I highly recommend this property.
We had an absolute amazing time in this delightful and most beautiful place. If you want peace and quiet and being surrounded by breathtaking views and stunningly gorgeous nature this is the place to be. We are sad to leave and go home. Plenty of rooms in this 3 storey accommodation, lots of space and an added bonus of the detoxing infrared sauna and relaxing hot tub which is most welcomed after being out and about exploring the valley and fabulous places in Devon and Cornwall.
Lovely cottage and an excellent stay
Valley View is a beautiful house to stay in with stunning views and all the comforts of home. It also has a hot tub and a sauna, the latter of which we didn't use but kept meaning to! The garden was perfect for my dogs, one of which is blind and she loved lying out in the sun on the grass in her own little world! I brought loads of stuff with me as I didn't know what would be left in the house but actually, the owners and managers had pretty much thought of everything. Lovely comfortable beds, very cosy lounge area, towels and bedding supplied and there were even some dog bowls there which I didn't use as I had everything with me. My poor car didn't need to have been as overloaded as it was in the end! Would thoroughly recommend Valley View loads of nice pubs and eateries all within a 1015 mins drive, gorgeous beaches and scenery just a really fabulous place to be. The manager Kevin and his wife Jackie live very close by and offered assistance, a very warm welcome and a surprise little gift package when we arrived it's those little touches that mean everything.
Great place to stay in ilfracombe for large families and groups. Our host Kevin was Fab , he gave us fab info on where to go for days out, and kept the jacuzzi in tip top condition, can not fault anything. Would highly recommend staying here.
Harold
Whilst in a beautiful area and a lovely caretaker. Paying over 4000 i would have thought it would have had a toilet and sink in the showersauna room downstairs. if this is not something you think is beneficial then a plan of layout of the rooms would be more beneficial on the Sykes website. I think personally if this was put in the description it would help people to choose as i would have personally have chosen a different property. There are 2 toiletsshower rooms on ground floor yes only one bedroom. top floor bedroom with en suite and twin single beds on top level looking over the stables but they have to go downstairs to use toiletshower. then lower ground do have shower with no toilet or sink and has a louvre door to enter from bedroom which is not clearly stated in description. The rest of the property is perfect. and the caretaker is obviously nearby if any problems which we did have with the TV in the lounge area going blue in picture and this was replaced within hours with a brand new one which was perfect. Thank you.
For a large party ten people or so, Valley View has much to recommend it. Its rural surroundings make it thankfully a tranquil retreat, while its lawn provides some welcome space for children to let off steam. The house is well equipped clean, and if required has helpful stairgates and high chairs for young children. Very minor cavils would include not having en suite facilities apart from a shower for the bedroom on the lower floor and having an access road that could prove challenging, especially when manoeuvring in a crowded car parking area. On our visit, what also didn't help was the presumably unavoidable power cut which resulted, when power was restored at 4.38am, in the doorbell sounding and waking us up. However, as a place to retreat and relax andor as a place to explore the local area and there's lots to explore, this is an excellent holiday option.
Valley View is a lovely house with amazing views. Everything was as listed we couldnt fault a thing. Games, books, dvds all there to be used. The hot tub was brilliant and used regularly. If you want a nice quiet and peaceful holiday in a beautiful setting this l would recommend. Brilliant for walks.

We booked Valley View for a family holiday to celebrate my husbands 60th birthday. The house had plenty of space for 3 generations and had all the facilities we could want. The house was extremely clean and very well equipped, the best equipped holiday rental we have stayed in. The views from the property were beautiful and the garden and hot tub were the icing on the cake. Kevin the manager was very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. I would definitely recommend staying at Valley View.
Jacqueline
Beautiful cottage, views are amazing, the hosts Kevin and Jackie were very helpful, even had some duck eggs from them, was greeted with prosecco and chocolate cake! Would highly recommend as perfect for family get together, our stay was 6 adults and 3 children and 1 dogs, plenty of room, huge garden with football goal, rackets etc. Recommendation would be to update board games.
Stephen
Lovely property, ideal for large families or large groups. Ideally situated for Ilfracombe, Woolacombe and North Devon
Danielle
We had a very pleasant stay and enjoyed the facilities. Our group ranged from young infant to senior citizens and there were no complaints. We were lucky to have great neighbor's in Kevin and Jackie who helped secure a small gap in the fence they went the extra mile to make sure we were content to let the dogs out in the garden without fear of them escaping. Lovely people and I think were taking time to maintain the garden well. The veranda could use a parasol on the table for the really hot sunny days but other than that, it was a very successful visit. Thank you!
Alison
The house is beautiful and the views are stunning. The furnishing and fixtures in the house were of a high standard and the kitchen was well equipped. We loved the outdoor sitting areas where we were able to enjoy the last of the sun. However, the outdoor furniture on the main deck is weather beaten and some of the chairs were a bit rickety. Some of the finial posts on the decking were also weathered and if someone fell into them they may break.
The property itself was nice and big with plenty of space for 10 people. The property is well stock with everything you would need and felt this was cleaned to a very high standard We had a problem with the hot tub when we first arrived and we were told this was being checked to make sure it was okay to use as the water was a bit murky, the company that cleans the hot tub advised that they had cleaned the filter and it had been crystal clear when they left and it was just from where they cleaned the filter and would clear within 24 hours and was okay to use. We did use the hot tub but we felt that the the company that cleans the hot tub should come out more than one a week to check everything is looking okay and still okay to use. The gardens were lovely but we were a bit dissapointed that there were a few areas that were over grown and you couldn't access like the fire pit area and the pond we had lovely weather but we were unable to sit in those areas. The stairs that lead to the garden also had overgrown weeds coming through. We noticed that the railings on the main deck area were not very safe and some of the spindles were broken we just felt these areas were a bit overlooked. That being said we were impressed with the accomodation itself and nothing was too much trouble if we had any problems.
The valley view was amazing. The view from the house are stunning and in a very peaceful location. We where welcomed with cake and prossico .thank you in our party 6 adults and 4 kids.plenty of room .the kids loved the game room and garden.the adults enjoyed the hot tub and sauna. Ideal location. We will hopefully go back next year.cant wait.! Thank you kim,Chris and family
Lovey house, but problems with the hot tub spoilt our stay, the control panel just stopped working, so no bubbles jets etc . The caretaker came round and I think completely by fluke got it working again but then the same thing happened when we went to use it later so we had 3 days where we couldnt use it.. We messaged the caretaker about the issue happening again but our message wasnt acknowledged. We were very disappointed and dont feel we got everything we paid for. We have used Sykes several times and I always recommend them to friends. Have already booked a break for next year and am about to book a second , just hope if we encounter problems again they are resolved properly we could book cheaper properties but always choose those with hot tubs even though you pay considerably more
Fabulous house, plenty of space for all, lovely gardens. The welcome pack with Prosecco and cake was a really lovely thought. We had a great time in the house, 6 adults and 3 children, everything you needed was provided. The delivery drivers from Sainsburys didnt have a problem with the drive and neither did we. Thoroughly recommend Valley View Cottage.
Rosalie
This was a family holiday to celebrate our golden wedding anniversary and Valley View was the perfect setting. The views were amazing from every window and the hot tub was a hit with young and old.
A daunting entrance to the car park up a steep, narrow bendy drive, but the house and garden make it well worth the effort. A few trips soon gets you used to it anyway. The house was beautifully clean and had everything one could want for a quiet family holiday. There was only six of us in total including a four year old and a 15 month old, so there was ample room and facilities. The house, whilst on three levels, was perfectly safe for the children as there were stair gates on all the stairs and their safety was never a concern. The star of the show is definitely the hot tub, even on a not too sunny evening it's a great way to relax and enjoy a glass of something. Well situated for various North Devon resorts including Ifracombe, Combe Martin & Woolacombe, Woolacombe has a great beach and is well served with shops and restaurants. On a prctical point we had a delivery from Sainsburys on the evening of our arrival but you will have to carry the supplies upthe winding drive as no supermarket delivery van is going to attempt it bu not really a problem.
Valley view is a lovely peaceful place to stay. Spotlessly clean and loads of space. If only the weather had been better, it would have been a perfect holiday.
