The Retreat Reviews

Sandra
Excellent property in a lovely location. Very comfortable, spacious and well maintained. It's was lovely to be welcomed by the owners on arrival and the welcome pack was a bonus especially the homemade cake. We would definitely return to The Retreat in the future.
Claire
The Retreat is a spacious and high quality accommodation. Everything within the property was of a high standard. We travelled as 3 families and we all had lots of space. Excellent communication from the owners as well, nothing was too much trouble. We all had a very enjoyable stay.
This was the perfect property for our family group. Lots of space to spread out, and large communal areas to come together. The home was well equipped, it had everything we needed if we wanted to cook, and was extremely comfortable in all areas. The hosts provided delicious home made cake and other treats.
I can honestly say this is the best holiday rental I have ever stayed in! Amazing house, amazing hosts, Wouldnt change anything!
Thoroughly enjoyed the week with our children and grandchildren, a very multi generation place to stay. The Pavilion in Lympsham was wonderful with excellent food. The cows in the field adjacent to the Retreat was an added bonus. Thank you Lucy and Kohn!
A lovely house in a beautiful area. Lucy and John were very welcoming with a delicious cake and a bottle of cave to greet us when we arrived. The house had every amenity we could need and was very comfortable. The garden was also great.
We had a wonderful family getaway at The Retreat. The location was perfectpeaceful, quiet, and serene. The house itself was spacious, beautifully maintained, and equipped with everything we could possibly need. A big thank you to Lucy and John for being such fantastic hostsfrom all of us!
Andrew
Really lovely property perfect for our large family gathering
Michael and Sheila
We had a fantastic stay at The Retreat. The house was spacious for 10 of us and it was very comfortable. It had all the facilities we needed and is in a good location for visiting Weston Super Mare, Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole, Wells, Bristol and Bath. We would recommend the Retreat to anyone wanting a family Christmas together.
Christopher
A warm welcome and farewell from the owner. The property is well presented and maintained, located on the edge of a beautiful village, in a rural setting with views across the countryside. All we needed to have an enjoyable, stress free and comfortable stay was provided including a comprehensive information pack recommending local places to visit, shop and eat, walks and instructions for every appliance at The Retreat.
Susanne
A really spacious and well appointed property. The owners were very friendly and helpful. The welcome package was gratefully received on our arrival, especially the homemade cake and bubbly. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Malcolm
This beautiful house with gorgeous views all around, is a very spacious, comfortable and well equipped property. Owners are lovely, welcoming and helpful. We have stayed in some nice properties over the years but The Retreat really is one of the best.
Lorraine
The retreat was perfect for our multi generation holiday. The property was spotless and had everything we needed for our stay. Lucy the host met us in person, she was very friendly and helpful. There was a delicious homemade cake, a bottle of fizz and fresh milk waiting for us which was a lovely touch. We would definitely not hesitate to book the property again.
A beautifully appointed, spacious but cosy house and home. Great for a three generational family holiday. Much appreciated welcome by Lucy providing cake, milk and cava. Lucy and John immediately came to the rescue with a replacement gas canister when the barbecue ran out in the middle of cooking.

We had spent 5 amazing nights at the accommodation, as a group of 9 with elderly and children. The key highlights of the stay was the lovely, aesthetically pleasing yet practical, modern and clean accommodation. It is a lovely house with plenty of space and a very nice and well looked after garden. The combined kitchendining area was the central part of the house for us as the whole group can be in the same area yet be able to naturally split off to do our own thing eg. cooking in the kitchen, having tea or preparing the ingredients in the dining area, and kids playing and watching TV in the corner. We enjoyed our meals under the sky roof in the dining area and sliding doors to the garden. We had also used the barbecue grill for one evening, which we got help with operating the gas supply from the host very quickly and easily. All amenities were well thought out from wash basin sensored lights, to night light hand torches that turn on automatically for finding the toilets at night. All appliances are very modern. To accommodate for 10 people, all appliances, amenities and space were good and of quality. As a bonus we were greeted by the friendly host and we were welcomed with cake, wine and farm shop milk which we enjoyed. We also refilled the milk once with standard milk and chocolate orange milk at the farm shop nearby. The stay was wonderful and we very much enjoyed our holiday.
The best home my family and I have stayed in for a staycation! ! Was very clean and felt like home as soon as we walked in! We were all very comfortable and happy!
The house was beyond perfect, clean, comfortable and absolutely stunning. The owner, Lucy, greeted us at the door and had made a cake for us. There was fresh milk in the fridge, bubbles for the grown ups and Easter treats for the children. The house itself was incredible. There were 10 of us and we had plenty of space. Despite the weather being awful, we had a wonderful stay. Thank you Lucy and John for a wonderful holiday. If you are planning to stay, just be aware, Google Maps tried to take me to the house using the wrong side of 'South Road', so just make sure you enter the road from the village rather than alongside the farm.
Tracey
This is a truly beautiful accommodation set in a wonderfully rural location. The house has been well thought out and everything you need is provided. From walking through the front door on day one and being met by a home made cake and fresh milk for comfort, it was stunning. Meeting the owner was fabulous and they made us feel at home and very welcome. Would totally recommend a visit
Fantastic property and location, great hosts highly recommend the place
Deborah
This is a beautiful house with the highest spec in a lovely location. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and only wish we could have stayed longer.
Stacey
Property was lovely, with all the facilities we could have wished for, and importantly very comfy beds. Thank you for being so welcoming, and we will hopefully be back again.

An absolutely delightful stay with the family in beautiful, peaceful Lympsham. The house was extremely spacious, clean and comfortable. Lucy was always available to offer recommendations, and very kindly made us an apple cake for my mum's birthday! Can't recommend this stay enough, we look forward to going back.
We had a lovely week at The retreat. There was plenty of space for all 7 adults and 2 kids who spent most of the time playing in the garden and picking fruit. While the adults enjoyed the views with peace and quite. Everything was provided by the host with an excellent fully equipped kitchen.. only issue we had was working out how to use the state of the art oven and hob but a file with all the info was on hand. The rooms are a good size and we had a put up bed for our daughter in our room. It was mentioned that there was too much light shining through early morning and would have liked curtains however this was the teenager. Its worth mentioning that if you get a delivery of food they may get lost finding you do collect. We would love to stay here again and highly recommend The Retreat.
Michael
An amazing property clean, comfortable, spacious and in a perfect location for exploring the local countryside and coast. Great for a large family holiday.

We chose the Retreat for our family holiday, 6 adults and 2 children aged 5 and 9 years. We all loved this rural property it was comfortable, very clean and gave us all the perfect chance to relax both indoors and in the beautiful garden. Lucy checked in on us several times to make sure we had all that we needed and made us very welcome with various treats. We found it to be the perfect base for exploring the area. Lympsham is a lovely village and the family enjoyed playing cricket on the green and the adventure playground. We would highly recommend this property and would really like to come back to stay again. Reviewed by Maralyn Button August 2023.

Excellent and spotlessly clean accommodation which was perfect in every way for our 3generation family holiday 6 adults, 3 children and one baby. The facilities were superb and the provision of basic household and holiday starter items was well thought out and better than most weve come across the inclusion of fresh chocolate milk for the children as well as ordinary milk, bubbles for the adults and a wonderful home made sponge cake was a lovely touch and much appreciated! Can thoroughly recommend and hope to return ourselves sometime.
Cannot recommend enough, fab location, lovely comfortable accommodation a real home from home and such wonderful hosts, couldn't do enough to help thank you!
Hannah
Absolutely stunning stay at The Retreat. Perfect for a weekend away with friends and our children. The property was beautiful and spotless! It had everything you could ever need, along with a lovely welcome gift! the cake was delicious! The little ones loved playing in the garden and hiding under the stairs that was their favourite spot. The property felt safe and secure with plenty of floor space for them to play. The showers were amazing and we all found the beds really comfortable. Lucy and John were brilliant hosts, very friendly and accommodating. John took the time to show us photos of the Retreat before they started work on the property. It was fascinating to see what the old building looked like and find out about the amount of work that went into creating what it is today. What a wonderful weekend! Thank you both! We hope to be back soon!
Andrew
This really is a lovely big, high quality finish house for our spread out family to spend much needed quality time together. Plenty of comfortable spaces to relax and not feel on top of each other. The open plan kitchen area is great and had everything we needed, Beds and bedrooms spacious and really comfortable for us. BBQ is really good! and the garden is lovely to sit in. Tasty home made cake left for by owner Lucy was welcome on arrival. We had a great week and there are plenty of places to visit locally if you want to get out and about. This was our second stay and we hope to be back again before too long none of us wanted to leave!
We have just returned from the most wonderful weekend at Lucy and John's place and we are already having the blues! The Retreat is certainly a treat and the most beautiful place to escape too. We loved looking out into the field next door to see the cows daily and spend time in the beautiful garden, watching the kids running around, playing football and having a bbq in the sun. It was a haven we wish we could stay in forever. There are not a lot of places we have visited where we instantly felt at home but that's exactly how you felt from the minute you walked in the door. The house is IMMACULATE, so thoroughly clean and with so much consideration for everyone. All the little details really go a long way including milk for drinks, chocomilk for the kids, fizz for the adults and a delicious home baked cake! Lucy and John were so welcoming and couldn't have done more for us. We can't recommend this place enough and will certainly be returning! Thank you again from Kerry and the rest of the family
This property did not disappoint, we had a fantastic week. It is such a roomy property, all the bedrooms were big and clean, bathrooms were a good size, lounge was big, we never felt like we were on top of each other! The owners were amazing, great welcome and a tour from them, little welcoming touches were amazing and we felt very welcomed! Everything was super clean and all the appliances were easy to use and modern. Only very slight critique, it should say this is a 3.5 bathroom rather than 4 bathrooms. Great location, lovely little village and great walks! We can't wait to re book and go back again! We loved this property.

A wonderful stay at The Retreat for our family of 10 aging from 3 to 66. We had great communication with Lucy in the lead up to our arrival who was super helpful, and were warmly welcomed! Special treats awaited us the almond and honey cake was delicious and fresh milk from the local dairy! The Retreat has everything you could want for a holiday stay, they have thought of everything and its truly a home from home. The accommodation is so immaculately kept my fatherinlaw questioned more than once whether we were in fact, the first guests to stay. Waking up to views of the fields & countryside was a delight & stepping out the front door we were greeted by horse riders coming down the quiet residential road. The village of Lympsham is very pretty and wellkept, the cricket green is a short walk past the church and primary school & there is a local shop where you can pick up any necessities and the paper. We ate in both nights of our stay as we were so happy with our surroundings, nobody wanted to leave on the Sunday! Thanks for a fabulous stay.
Michael
Such a beautiful and lovely cottage with many modern conveniences. Well thought out layout and very considerate little touches all around the house which made it such a pleasant experience to stay here. Immaculately clean!!
We cannot begin to tell you how much we loved the home you allow others to share. Once a year we choose to go away somewhere with the family there are 10 of us including my disabled sister with cerebral palsy. I am not exaggerating when I say we all entered 'the Retreat' and in unison said 'wow!'. Each room we entered was another lot of wows! The house is so beautifully and thoughtfully designed. There are comfortable spaces within the house to relax with others or, if you choose, have a quiet time by yourself. Having an ensuite room downstairs was convenient for my disable sister who is a wheelchair user. We were very touched by your generosity of a 'welcome pack'. We have packed a lot activities into our 4 days knowing we were heading back to a beautiful and cozy 'Retreat' every evening. Thank you John and Lucy for making us all feel so welcome and for being there at the end of the telephonetextemails to answer any query that we had. You have thought about everything! We have enjoyed reading other guests comments and you so deserve all the wonderful praise. Absolutely spotless! Thank you and see you again hopefully soon!
Joseph
Nice, mostly well equipped property with plenty of space for 2 families of 4. I say mostly as the showers and hot water system are not suitable for 8 people, after 3 quick showers hot water runs dry and you need to wait 40 minutes for it to reheat for your next 3 showers. The owner didn't see this was to much of a problem, its an eco system. Our new year's stay was ruined by the attitude of the owners, prior to our arrival we asked the owner in writing for permission to set off fireworks to see in the new year to which we received a prompt reply saying that yes we could, no problem. However as soon as we started the fireworks at 6pm, not midnight to be considerate to the local residents, we were promptly stopped by the owner who didn't realise the fireworks would be loud. This spoilt our new years celebrations, the purpose of our visit and left 4 young children extremely upset and the adults annoyed, had the owner said no to the fireworks in the first instance we could of made other arrangements and saved our money. We spent 150 on fireworks that we cannot use, the owner refused any compensation. We would not recommend or stay at this property again.
Such a wonderful cottage. Beautifully decorated, amazing space for a family of 10 people. Well equipped, amazing countryside side views and the owners are so welcoming. We cannot wait to hopefully stay in this beautiful accommodation again!
Gorgeous house that was a perfect place to hold our annual family christmas get together. There's nothing I can think of to be negative about.
Truly 5 star accommodation. We immediately felt comfortable and relaxed. Lucy made us feel very welcome and made sure everything met our expectations. We enjoyed the bottle of Cava and an apple cake left for us. We would highly recommend and look forward to a return visit.
A big thank you to Lucy and John for such a lovely weekend. It was the first time us girls managed to spend so much time together since COVID so it was great just to have the large space available for all of us to stay together and relax. Lucy and John were so accommodating to our requests and provided us with everything needed for a weekend getaway. Definitely would try to book again!
Celebrated our Ruby wedding anniversary at The Retreat with all the family. it was perfect for all of us, four generations, including two small children, and my disabled mother. Ideal location, set in the lovely rural village of Lympsham, close to the coastal resorts of Weston Super Mare, and BurnhamOnSea. We will definitely book again when next in Somerset.
