The Old Police House Reviews

Loved staying at the police house with the cosy lounge and large kitchen diner, the beds were comfy and the whole place was very clean and tidy with a homely feel so that we felt we could relax and enjoy being together as a big family group. The facilities and equipment were good, with only two things lacking, there were a few items of cutlery missing a big cooking spatula & not enough forks and some of the bedside lights didnt work but these are minor and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay thanks. The purpose of our stay was for my 23 yr old sons Cricket tour. There was myself, my son and 2 other of his cricket friends. We had an amazing time. There are so many great things to say about our stay at the old police house. The house was everything we wanted and much much more, it was beautiful, relaxing, super chilled out, a really happy place. Everything we needed in the house and more again. Amazing nites sleep, peaceful and comforting. Absolute perfect location, couldn't be any more Perfect for what we needed. I only have to knock u down a tiny bit just because of no parking right outside, but I was fully aware of it as u had said it in the description, and I parked just a street away with no problems. Will be staying here again same time next year hopefully. Thank you for an amazing time

When we arrived we were hit with an awful dirty smell as if it had been mopped with a dirt smellly mop? The worktops were dirty and crumbs left on the top. I washed all cups and glasses before use and everything smelt musty? The bath looked dirty and there was not even half a role of toilet paper in the toilet? Outside on the decking area needed a tidy up and the bin outside was full and smelt rotten! Along with lots of empty bottles in the recycling box that has not been emptied. I feel the house needed a makeover. Such a shame as it was in a good location just felt it hadnt been kept up to date with cleanliness I dont feel it was a 4 star property more like a 2 star.
The house is in a great location but has clearly been unloved for some time. The house is dirty with dead insects and general dirt all around the house even when allowing for its age the furniture is also old and the double bed is of poor quality. The bedding is also poor and needs updating due to age. Pillows are awful. The facilities are good i.e. dish washer, washing machine etc and outside toilet cleaner than inside toilet. overall an alright house but could be a lovely house. Parking an issue, but we knew that when we booked, The house needs a deep clean, I would suggest no one has rented this property for sometime and you can tell. I also requested three single beds via the email address supplied, no reply and the beds were not correct i.e. a double and single not three singles like I requested and advertised if needed.

The property was excellent. Our reservation before arriving was the lack of parking. There was no mention of where to park but we managed to find a car park within 5 minute's walk, Caen Street Car Park. It was inexpensive. There was little information about the house, we didn't expect a dishwasher or washing machine. It was all high spec. The garden was super. Had we renovated the property, we would have dismissed Cell One and bunk beds and put in a downstairs loo!
Elizabeth
Issue reported to Sykes when we arrived. TV was broken. No action was taken during our stay. Overall the property was lovely but a few things let it down. The toilet seat in the main bathroom was broken, we all have bruises on our legs from it. There was a lack of towels for 6 people staying. No welcome pack in the kitchen, had to go and buy tea towels, washing up liquid etc Window in the sitting room did not close properly allowing draft and lots of noise into the room! Rubbish collections were complicated and was not taken due to rubbish not being placed into black bags which again had not been provided. Cottage is in a great location and could be an amazing place to stay with a few little touches, kitchen was well equipped but some instructions for the appliances wouldnt go amiss and beds and sofas were comfortable.
Joanne
Loved our stay, everything we needed in a grate location. Parking was easy on the next street and 8 per day which was reasonable. We knew when booking there was only one bathroom, having an additional shower room would be a real addition to the property, even an outdoor solar shower for days after the beach would be great. But honestly no complaints had a fab stay.
The old police house was a great place it was very clean, tidy and in a great location. The beds were very comfortable. There was more than enough cutlery, and dinnerware for all the family there were even kids cutlery and dinnerware. The notice board was great as gave us useful information so did the handbook that was left but really needed updating and it was contradicting what was on the notice board. The outdoor toilet is great addition.there was a cupboard full of games most were old but still fun to play. The only downside to the property was the lack of door handles, out of the three bedroom doors upstairs only one room had a door handle making if difficult for privacy. One of the bedrooms was also missing a blind so got a lot of light coming into the room in the morning. There were no instructions for the washerdryer so had to Google them. There were pegs in the property but no clothes lines so this made it difficult to dry clothes when the weather outside was wet. The stairs in the property are steep and could really do with a handrail all the was down. The stairs in the back garden are also very steep and narrow but when you make it up on to the decking it is very lovely and big area for all the family to set out and enjoy. Overall this was a great property I would definitely stay at this property again.

We had a fantastic stay the house was perfect to visit all the beaches nearby ... We had a fantastic stay the house was perfect to visit all the beaches nearby lovely fishchips bar meals close at hand The only down side was the parking facility but we managed to park at a cost Also the disposal of rubbish was a real problem no bin facility at all we had to take our rubbish with us every day and dispose of it
Really great cottage, clean and well equipped. Really helpful and responsive owner. Only issue is the parking, but we knew that before we went. Amazing location.
Location is great, but the lack of parking is a bit of an issue. We were OK, as we found adequate street parking etc. but was the only downside from an otherwise excellent holiday home.
This was a lovely property. Perfect for us. I would not recommend for elderly.

I would just like to say that I booked through booking. Com where it was not clear this was a sykes holiday let. I received no reply to messages sent through booking.com which has never happened before. I could not discuss check out or parking etc. I also didn't know until AFTER we'd booked that we'd have to strip the beds and load the dishwasher, even with a 10am checkout. And there was no toilet roll on arrival in a place that cost over 400 for 2 nights. The location of the house was good for amenities the main road was noisy enough to wake us. Nicely looked after house but one bathroom for 9 people is not enough.

Ive sent two emails now one when i was at the cottage other when i checked out ... Ive sent two emails now one when i was at the cottage other when i checked out both had pics and details about the house no one been in touch when we arived there was over a weeks worth of rubbish in garden there was a black bra under the draws in back bedroom there was sweet and chocolate under the sofa that the dog sniffed out and when we moved the sofa it was filthy under there the bottom of the bath looked like it hadnt been cleaned for months the shower screen had all soap scum and the sink in the bathroom had several cracks in and black mould and the fridge in the utility had about a inch of dust and filth on top hadn't been wiped for months i sent pictures in a email not heard a thing
Kariss
I had an email stating i could check in at 3pm arrived but couldn't get in the property. The cleaners were there and told us check in was 5pm. Even though i showed them an email from the week prior to me arriving. There were no covid 19 procedures. No masks the property was a state The property was filthy, its not seen a duster for 20 years. There was food in the cupboards, rubbish everywhere. I will be complaining to yourself and i intend cancelling my December get away.
Great central location
Great location with lovely beaches within a short drive . House well equipped and comfortable. Braunton center on the doorstep.
Great value for money the pictures dont do the house justice so it exceeded our expectations we came to Braunton for a wedding and soon realised what a great location the house is in making it easy to visit some of North Devons famous towns and beaches. The riverside restaurant serves excellent roast dinner, we would also recommend Sian Bistro and the local fish and chips. We will be returning at some point only set back would be parking at busy times as there doesnt seem like theres enough.
Pauline
Very comfortable house which lived up to our expectations. Very well equipt. We really appreciated the new, outside loo.
Parking was just across the road in Caens car park which was very reasonably priced. The boiler tripped out but was easy to reset when investigated although it did leave us with no hot water for a night. These are minor issues compared to the very good position for beaches, food, pubs and a very comfortable well presented property which we thoroughly enjoyed. The property faces SQ delivery entrance so leaving the window open of a night may cause some people an issue with early morning for deliveries. Obviously with the window shut there was no problem however the weather being warm its nicer to have the draught.
It was the first time we rented a big cottage for 7 of us and we were a bit apprehensive about the facilities at the cottage and the comfortableness of it. However we were very pleased with all we had in the cottage and wouldn't hesitate to book again when we manage to be all together again.
Great holiday home, comfortable, roomy and great location.
Ideal for our requirements. This is the second year we have used the house & will book again next year. Will be even better when the additional toilet installation is completed. Would suggest using sensor activated lights outside.
Sophie
A fabulous holiday home in a fantastic position near amenities. It felt like home from home and we will definitely be back.
Melanie
TOPH is absolutely lovely, full of character yet modern equipment and all the things you need. The lounge is very comfortable for TV watching and the garden just right for my dog first thing with lovely walks, bars and restaurants all around. Street parking a street away wasn't a problem and dropping off luggage was fine, even with the double yellows.
