Heanton Lodge Reviews

Not for us . View wasn't as expected . Building work in adjoining property . Old food left in freezers . Very dated . However gardens were lovely and it was nice & quiet once the builders had gone home .
Patrick
On arrival we were met with builders vans in the lane and a huge scaffold clad house next door metres away wrapped in polythene sheeting. Extensive work was taking place. Not what we were expecting or advised about from either Sykes or the owner. Inside though was spotless and comfortable. The patio areas could do with a clear up as you are sat amongst weeds. The garden though is lovely, even with the sound of a digger operating next door! We did experience an issue with the smell of drains in the conservatory which was there one day but not the next, only to return the day after ! Could well be as a result of ground work taking place next door ? The Housekeeper did offer to get a plumber round, but there was no sign of any issues in the cloakroom or bathrooms, suspect it was more a drainage issue. In the end we didnt use the conservatory, the house was big enough without it. The building work thankfully didn't really affect us as the builders were fairly quiet for builders and didnt have a constant radio blasting out. Had we known about the building work though we would have delayed our holiday to later in the year. It just took the edge off it. Once all of that is sorted though its a good property to stay at and you wont find one cleaner.
This property was perfect and a great place to stay clean, comfy and spacious with lovely decor and furniture, a well equipped kitchen, nice gardens and a beautiful view. It's fairly secluded and private, situated in a pretty little village within easy reach of the local supermarket, nearby towns and beautiful beaches. The owners were very helpful and accommodating to our needs and requests.
Wonderful place for a holiday. Warm, quiet even during the storm, comfortable, and of course, a great view of the estuary, but a couple of minor things need fixing We could not find any instructions for using the oven. Its a very good oven but the temperature control is unusual. Eventually solved by getting the model number from the oven and looking it up on the internet. The contact details in the property information folder were out of date. The numbers were for a previous booking agency Marsdens? and caretaker number unobtainable. The contact details supplied by Sykes in the booking email were correct but it would be helpful if the local folder was correct as well as it is usually the first port of call if something is amiss.

The property itself was as described and clean, well maintained and spacious and had plenty of equipment in the kitchen. The garden is well maintained and there are also good views across the estuary. The house is relatively modern but we found the sound insulation left much to be desired as sounds travelled easily between rooms. It was in a small village but the location itself is quite suburban and is much closer to other properties than the photos suggest. It's also not far from fairly built up and industrial areas so not really a rural idyll but convenient for some facilities. What wasn't disclosed by either the owners or Sykes cottages was that the next door property, which is only a couple of metres away from this house, is undergoing major and, at times, very noisy refurbishment. This significantly disturbed our holiday on several days and we believe that both parties have a duty to advise those renting the property about the works in advance. We have made a complaint with photographs and videos which is unresolved. The extent of the works suggests this will continue for the rest of this holiday season. Possibly we were unlucky with the type of works being carried out when we stayed but future customers should be aware of this.

The property was lovely, very clean, beds very comfortable, sofa's comfy. The welcome basket was an absolute treat. We loved it very much, the only slight downside, was the construction site next door working during day time ... but that is a temporary issue, so please don't let it put you off.
Excellent property for multigenerational family.
