Wootton House Reviews

Christine
Just returned from a week celebrating family birthdays. The house , gardens , pool and facilities were everything we wished for. Fabulous memories
The house was excellent, the pictures don't do it justice at all. The gardens are beautiful and huge. The pool is such a lovely addition and the kitchen was very well stocked. We had a great time and would definitely return.
This was our second visit. It's the most amazing house which everyone enjoys. There is so much to do and the house feels so homely. It's just perfect. The one thing we would like is a loo brush in every loo. With 16 people staying there can be a lot of loo visits. Lol I think you get the general picture. Xxx x
Wootton house was everything we hoped it would be. Large spacious rooms. Well equipped kitchen. Gorgeous grounds and a delightful swimming pond. It was the perfect space for our family celebration
Gregory
We had a wonderful week at Wootton house, our second visit. We loved the character and history of the house, the space, the grounds lots of spring flowers and the rural but accessible location. The dining room accommodated all fifteen of us for dinner and we enjoyed having a log fire in the evenings. Our only minor negative observations were that the place would benefit from a bit more of a clean quite dusty in places, a bit of maintenance eg wobbly loo seat and extra fridge space. That said, everyone genuinely loved the place and we didn't want to leave.
A fabulous location and a superb, spacious house & grounds. The whole family loved our week there the kitchen was big enough for all 14 of us and the pianists in our group had a fine time. The natural pond was a bit cold, but then we were there in late March!

A great property for large groups. We had 15 people staying at the house and there was plenty of space for everyone to do their own thing. A really good house if you want to cook the kitchen is huge and has pretty much everything you want apart from possibly more fridges! and we found people often tended to gravitate there. The lounge rooms were comfy, pianos fun, games room popular and the pond pool hugely popular with our crazy cold water swimming crowd. An amazing place for a winter retreat I'm sure it would be great in summer too. Highly recommended.
Hi overall our stay was very comfortable nice layout, beautiful old building, love the grounds and outdoor pool area, lovely antique furniture etc. A big plus was the number of bathrooms and also the house was comfortably warm. The kitchen is great for cooking for the large number of guests and well stocked. The downside was that carpets were quite old and stained, and rugs quite worn out. In bedrooms and door frames, paint was old and chipped or scratched. A carpet and woodwork makeover would make a huge difference to the aesthetics and overall appeal. The house could do with a good deep clean areas under certain furniture items looked like they had not been dusted for a long time, and there were cobwebs in between the sash windows. A reinvestment and good deep clean would transform the place into 5 star accommodation.
We are a group of 9 adults, 2 of whom visited Wootton House in 2009. Everyone loves the house, garden and surroundings. Wotton House appears like an original time capsule with the large hall and lovely living rooms as well as the very large rooms on the 1st floor. It is great to have access to the large garden. You can really unwind here. Everyone wants to come back another time.
We had a wonderful long weekend at Wootton House with all our family to celebrate our golden wedding anniversary. The lovely, characterful house and grounds met the needs of eight adults, young and old, as well as the needs of seven children aged between 2 and 12. We could not have asked for more. Many thanks and especially to Wendy and Mike, the caretakers, who were most welcoming and helpful on our arrival.

Loved this beautiful old house the grounds were astonishing the dogs
We had a week in Wootton house and I cant remember enjoying a week away as much. The house was dated and very different to previous holiday cottages. But Wootton House is steeped in history and the dated interior only adds to the experience. Everyone felt completely relaxed and at home, it was a fantastic step back in time. The grounds are amazing, the natural pool was a huge hit with everyone. The beds were all extremely comfortable, everyone slept like a baby. Given the age of the property, I didnt expect great performance from the showers, but they were extremely powerful, great water pressure. We had a mixed aged group, people in their 60s, 50s, 30s, 20s, primary school age and younger. When it came to the last day, everyone in the party wished we had another week, we didnt want to leave. Street and Glastonbury were a pleasure to visit and we purchased a lot of discounted goods at Clarks Village. We also visited Longleat Safari park, which was only 50 minutes away. Whether you want to explore and sightsee or just spend your time relaxing on the premises, Wootton House fits the bill. Ive no doubt we will be returning at some point in the future.

We had a great family week celebrating a 90th birthday. The house is expansive, as are the grounds. I wouldnt want to have to maintain it or keep it clean! As other reviews have said it is tired and old fashioned in many places, but that gives it great character. If you want showhome standard this is not for you, but if you want a relaxed week trying out all the facilities then its perfect. Bathrooms and swimming pond were better than expected and the pond was a great hit. Played croquet own mallets, tennis, table tennis, piano and canasta. Children enjoyed the climbing frames, the library and the wooden train set. Extra fridge space would have been useful, but we managed OK by using the wine fridge in the swimming complex and shuttling across. Day trips out to local attractions, but mainly just enjoyed the house and garden due to the lovely weather.
Whilst we really enjoyed Wootton House, the cleanliness of the place left much to be desired. The facilities were pretty good, notably the Beautiful filtered pond that we were able to swim in. We were a big family group, so the facilities allowed us all to be together at meal times and in the evening. The outdoor area was fabulous and we made the most of it, with the youngsters playing tennis etc. The kitchen was very well equipped but could have done with another big fridge given the capacity of guests. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and loved the character, charm and history of the property.
We love this property. Weve been twice and have already booked for next year. Its beautiful and has lots to do. However it is very old and is suffering from neglect in places. I hope the owners have a plan for the repairs which need doing and to refresh the house decor.

Just the perfect house for our family holiday. Loved it all. So much to keep everyone entertained and comfortable. A couple of things to draw your attention to but didnt spoil our time at Wootton House Shower didnt work in one of the bathrooms. The conservatory by the pool was not brushed up or cleaned. A better pool table in the games room, so you could have a proper game. Thank you
We really enjoyed our holiday at Wooton House. The spacious house and grounds were ideal for a family holiday for 15, providing the room for us all to get together or spread out as needs be. The facilities, with the games room, tennis court and 'natural pool' were enjoyed by all. We also appreciated its quiet and rural location, yet not too far from local towns, villages and shops.
This was our second visit to Wootton House and the first in the summer when we could really enjoy the beautiful garden. The swimming pool is wonderful. It is a lovely house and the history makes it special. The showers are a bit temperamental there's plenty of hot water but getting them to turn on is an art. The caretaker was welcoming and helpful. We love Wootton House and hope to come again.
Amazing stately home with great facilities! Loved the natural pond, friendly helpfulness of caretakers and fascinating memories owner's family. Beautiful gardens and ample space for our celebration reunion!
Really really good. Could not have asked for more.

This is an old house, which is our bag perhaps some people might prefer a more modern place but we loved it. Comfy, slightly bonkers, absolutely amazing outside space check out the wildflowers in Spring, walk a minute past the front door, library, tennis, games, we didnt want to leave. We didnt use the splash pool because of the time of year, but it is a very impressive extra. Top tip before you cook the rice in the most massive pot ever invented because there are no ordinary saucepans, check the cupboards BEHIND the kitchen door
We loved the house. Totally wonderful. However none of us enjoy Skyes Cottage. You should be able to speak to someone at your company. We wrote to you, you didn't reply. We try to ringing you, you don't return any calls. Your company needs to review how they deal with clients once they have booked a hoilday with you. You let us down completely.
Eleanor
We found the house comfortable and well resourced. The beds were comfortable and there are plenty of bathrooms and other facilities. The pond is a great new asset and we had a wonderful time in Wootton House.
Excellent property for large family or friends get together. Well equipped kitchen and dining room for entertaining. Good facilities to keep everyone occupied and entertained stunning natural pool.Cosy and warm in colder season despite age and size of property. Fabulous bathrooms but some other rooms were a bit tired and could do with some TLC. Overall the house felt very homely and comfortable.Dogs were welcome, which was a real bonus. Interesting history of the house and area with plenty of accessible places to visit.
Great house for a large get together of all ages The heating was on and house very hot even to hot for some of us we would go back again. Only thing that niggled us was the amount of dust in places, which should not be if cleaned fully mainly in bedrooms this is nothing major but a no to one of our party who is a domestic cleaner. Overall nice house and grounds and house you feel at home in.
Lovely grounds but everything about the house needs work. There are no comfortable seats for people as all the sofas have no springs left. Same for most of the chairs. The room of the couple celebrating their golden wedding anniversary had no working shower. The games room needs modernising especially the equipment.
Michael
We asked for a cot for an infant. This was provided, but there didn't seem to be a proper mattress for it and other cushions were used I think from a window seat. Other than that we had a great time making music, swimming, playing tennis and croquet
Beautiful old house. Practical kitchen easy to cook in and wellequipped. Garden and tennis court great and popular. Three generations very happy with our stay!
A generously sized House in a great position and generally well presented only the games room was messy and poorly squared off there is too much games kit available so that made it seem over equipped and untidy the exact opposite was the pool areafacility which was v well presented, and despite our weather could be better advertised as a real asset the spacious garden was good, as was the tennis court. Internally the house looked worn but well loved and welcoming beds were comfortable the kitchen, lounge, and dining rooms were very adequate for our group of 16 the pianos were well tuned and were well used by our group. The information books for visitors are badly in need of some attention. All together our time at Wootton House will be fondly remembered.
What a fabulous house! ! Super homely with all the facilities we needed. Bedrooms are all spacious and bright, bathrooms are well appointed with great showers in most of them. A slightly less powerful shower in the red room ensuite but still ok. Lovely clean white towels and bedding throughout and comfy beds. The younger people in our party loved the four posters! Downstairs we only used one of the sitting rooms but it was large with plenty of seating for all of us. The sofas have seen better days but were still comfortable. The pianos got used by several of us! When we were at the house we spent the majority of our time outside or in the amazing kitchen. The kitchen was definitely our favourite room, warm, cosy and comfortable. The games room was a big hit in the evenings and when it rained whilst the wonderful wild swimming pond was used by most of us with some of our party using this almost daily. Some lovely sunny days allowed us to make full use of the huge and beautiful garden and tennis courts. We had a couple of minor issues with a panel in the red bedroom wardrobe falling off on arrival, the tv speaker playing up in the morning room and the dishwasher breaking down but overall we had a brilliant family holiday and absolutely loved the house to the point that weve already booked again for next year. We would recommend Wootton House for its character, space and comfort and for its location, being quite central for lots of surrounding attractions.
We enjoyed a fantastic holiday in this lovely family home. It was everything we hoped for, large, well equipped, beautifully decorated with wonderful gardens in a lovely quiet setting
We loved our week here. The house is beautiful. It's true that it's a bit shabby in places, but it's so full of character. The rooms are really generously sized, the showers are very good, the kitchen is lovely and warm, and the grounds beautiful. Would happily return.
An update on the floor plan on your website would be beneficial
Miranda
We had an amazing time! Really beautiful house and gardens. There's loads of games in the games room including things for younger kids We'd brought toys and books for my toddler but wouldn't have needed either as the house had plenty from rocking horses to train sets to picture books. We also spent a warm afternoon having a wonderful time being rubbish at croquet! The house is decorated in a way that suits its age but the bathrooms all seemed fairly modern nice baths and showers with plenty of hot water for a large group of people and good water pressure. The kitchen is huge and well equipped and the pianos were tuned in preparation for our visit. The caretaker was really nice and quick to respond to messages when we had questions. It was a really good weekend!
Soleira
This is an older property with so much character and history to it. It's proximity to Glastonbury, it's wonderful views, it's warm kitchen, massive dining room, big bedrooms and comfy lounge area were great for a group of 13. Not to mention the piano room with two pianos. We loved every second of our stay there.
Wootton House was reminiscent of a bygone era and a bit tired, yet it remains proud and comfortably wraps you up in its large size and tangible family history. The house facilities were perfectly adequate for a large group and the expansive gardens greatly appreciated. The object of a Grade II listing is to curb unwarranted change that is true of it's character too. Sure, have an information pack somewhere, sort out the roof leak in the toyroom, the broken shower control handles and clear the tennis court of beech nuts, and maybe even a judicious lick of paint, but whatever you do, don't destroy this quintessential English country house by modernising it.
Philip
Excellent outside space for children and adults. Plenty of inside space and well equipped kitchen & utility. Bathrooms excellent with plenty of hot water. Reception room sofas and chairs adequate but very tired. Decor and carpets also tired but clean. A large amount of family history in the shape of pictures and mementos in every room on all horizontal surfaces and walls which leant to an overall interesting appearance but susceptible to accidental damage. A bit like staying in an old museum. Overall all party members adults and children enjoyed the holiday.
Had an amazing weekend at Wootton house celebrating our first anniversary with family and friends . Great time playing tennis and croquet and table tennis . Spacious and great for entertaining. Loved the personal artefacts in each room and books and artwork . Will be rebooking. Thank you to Michael the lovely caretaker who was so helpful .
