The Cottage Reviews

Malcolm
The owner Jackie was kind enough to phone us when we could get in the cottage and met us with a quick explanation of things. Cosy lounge with 3 settees. A galley kitchen with everything you need and a large dining room. Only downside is the metal bed frames squick when you turn over. There are no sockets near the bed in the main bedroom so unable to read in bed as the table lamps are in the middle of the room.
Elizabeth
Excellent location for early morning harbour walks with the dog. Also close by are several cafes and the Coop. The cottage needs a bit of TLC and is desperate for new bedding. The kitchen was well equipped.
Beulah
A lovely cottage in such a great location. Shops and pubs on the doorstep and beaches and the steam train very near by. The cottage was well equipped and some nice touches like coffee, tea, biscuits and milk when we arrived. The secure garden was ideal as we had our two dogs with us. Parking is a little tight with a narrow lane to access but that is the only tiny negative.
Overall its. Lovely central accommodation inside and having the garden was definitely a plus being walled all around the only comment I would make is that you couldnt open the windows upstairs due to the Ivy coming over them plus it made the downstairs bedroom dark due to this, but thats a minor thing, we would definitely stay there again
Andrea
We had a lovely enjoyable stay in the cottage. Beds were comfy. Kitchen was well equipped. Great enclosed garden which was safe for the dog who enjoyed lying outside on the grass. Some bedding could do with renewing as stained. En suite bedroom downstairs was great for disabled family member but could benefit from a rail in the shower to aid getting in and out. Parking was tight but manageable. Great view of the harbour from bedrooms and super close to all amenities. Over all a great stay and would recommend.
Excellent location for esplanade access, right next to market place. Was buzzing on carnival days, but very quiet other days. Local facilities are lovely and you can get everything you need. The cottage was basically clean, some cobwebs still around, arachnobias will always see those. Generally maintained to good standard and everything worked ok, but main toilet has flushing issues.
The cottage is perfectly placed to enjoy all the shops, restaurants and bars in Watchet. It is very well equipped and comfortable. However, there should be some warning as to just how narrow Esplanade Lane is at its entrance. This is not helped by the concrete blocks placed outside other properties and makes it almost impossible to use in a large car or SUV.

The house and location are lovely A few small tweaks and itd be perfect Kitchen was very well equipped and great for making food with everything needed Main bedroom could do with some more furniture for storage and the bed is very squeaky but very comfortable Twin rooms both great and ideal for our family
Richard
Very comfortable cottage, lovely views of the harbour, very quiet. Parking is a bit of an issue, very narrow street to the cottage and not suitable for a minibus, there is public car park at the rear of the property which is a pay and display, for a week we paid 25.00
Claire
Had a lovely weekend as a group of 6. Clean, very well stocked with everything you need and perfect location. Would definitely book again for another totally chilled out weekend
Excellent location in centre of Watchet and in quiet culdesac. Spacious and mostly comfortable beds more than the sitting room furniture!. Some problems we were there in a very windy and cold moment in February and we found we had to block gaping gaps in distorted window frames with plastic bags. One of our party suffers from asthma and suffered! She found that the pillow inside numerous slips was dirty and had evidence of mould not good. When the kettle burned out on the first evening there was an excellent and immediate response to replace it with a new one great! Having said all that we would consider staying here again if we returned to Watchet.
Brilliant place to stay, lovely cottage that housed our big family perfectly and a beautiful setting!
Vanessa
Its a beautiful cottage in a lovely friendly village. This was our second time there and we love it. We will definitely book again.
Sharon
3rd time staying in this perfectly situated cottage. The facilities were exactly as described and clean, with a lovely welcome tray of tea, coffee and biscuits. Definitely a great cottage for a family with or without children.
We loved our week at 'The Cottage' for several reasons. The accommodation is as shown and all very clean and tidy. Perhaps one of the twin rooms is more suited to two youngsters and not adults due to it's size. The owner provided us with a generous welcome pack so no need to rush to the shop for supplies. Parking is for two small cars. What is not shown on the web page is the really pretty secluded garden and garden furniture, which we couldn't use due to the continual rain! Within no more than a very short walk are a local CoOp and several pubs. The Esplanade Bar, a mere half minute walk from the accommodation sells some lovely Somerset cider as does Pebbles. You should try these! Can highly recommend 'The Star' but you need to book for Sunday lunch and choices are limited after the first sitting. The Food is reasonably priced too. The food at the Bell was average. Public transport runs hourly to Minehead or Taunton and all at 2 per trip and bus stop 2 minutes walk from our accommodation. If only we had had sunny weather we could have done a lot more. Overall an enjoyable stay. Would we return for a second visit yes if someone else did the driving as it was a bit too far for us.
Anthony
A property with potential that was over promised and under maintained. The situation in the town was good although the parking was tight and difficult to enter due to a disabled parking bay opposite. The outside furniture was not well maintained and insufficient for the number of guests that the property could hold 8. The first floor balcony had a good view but was spoil due to a lack of maintenance and cleaning. It was covered with moss and there was no outside furniture provided for the area. From the lack of electric sockets and the positioning of the few that there were it suggested that the electrics could do with an upgrade.
Judith
We had a wonderful stay at The Cottage. It was beautifully presented and really clean on our arrival. Jackie, the owner, was very helpful and friendly. The location was amazing literally a 30 second walk to Watchet Harbour which had its festival week during the first week of our stay culminating in an impressive firework display. We would definitely recommend this property.
Was a big surprise when we went in, plenty of room, There was everything you need, even a iron , dishwasher was a great help with being six of us. Garden is a lovely sun trap. Very clean, comfortable beds . Was a nice touch having milk, coffee, tea and biscuits when we got there after a long drive was able to. Have a cuppa, would definitely go there again .
Alison
A really lovely, homely cottage with a great private garden to relax in but the garden was a little bit overgrown and in need of bit of an overhaul to open it up. The cottage is very large with plenty of room for the 8 people it can accomodate. The owner left a bottle of milk in the fridge, a pack of chocolate biscuits with some tea bags and coffee sachets so we were able to make a cuppa when we arrived...a lovely gesture. Would definitely consider going back.
A charming cottage, well presented and very comfortable. Lovely little garden and we'll positioned for the harbour.
Olivia
Lovely property in a perfect location. Great facilities, only suggestion would be to provide larger towels if possible.
The Cottage is a lovely property in a great location we didn't need to use the car for four days which was lovely. The upstairs bedroom balcony is a bonus especially as you can see the steam train pass right by the cottage. Very good communication with Jackie beforehand, so the key collection was easy. The cottage was great for us as a mixed group of adults and children. Beds very comfortable, warm bedding, plenty of comfortable seating, wellequipped kitchen, excellent bath and showers very clean The only negatives were minor things the lighting in the cottage was not great it was not easy to read in the living room, and there were no bedside lights in the big bedroom upstairs. The kettle was a bit 'glitschy' had to turn it to just the right spot on the base or it wouldn't come on.
Just back from a lovely week at the cottage. Its our second time staying and hopefully wont be our last. Kitchen very well equipped, everywhere clean and tidy. Arrival and departure no issues and host easily contactable. Would definitely recommend
Christine
Lovely location. So nice to wake up to the harbour on the doorstep. House was very comfortable and lived in. We had everything we needed at the cottage. We agree the windows could do with a clean but otherwise all was good. We used the safe garden a lot with the children for ball games. It was a lovely space for us.
Denise
Definitley in need of some TLC. The windows need cleaning. The garden needs some attention & you would certainly not eat of the rusty table outside. The heating was supposed to come on twice a day it never happened, & the first week was cold for july, the property owner was informed & we were told it had been sorted ,but it hadnt & there is no possibility of accessing the heating yourself as &when you might need it even though you are paying for it! luckily the weather got warmer the second week. There is a terrible, terrible smell in the down stairs en suite & no window you can open to let fresh air in. Although it says harbour view, this is only the case if you want to stand upstairs & look through the top of the window. The upstairs bedroom balcony would be a lovely space if it was cleaned up ,the bedroom itself is lovely, as are the twin rooms. the cottage is very spacious & with some time spent on these issues it would be a lovely place to stay.
Claire
Had a fantastic time at The Cottage Watchet. The location was perfect for us, right next to the marina and easily accessible to the shops and railway station. The property was accessible for my disabled grandmother which meant we all had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. The Cottage could do with being looked after a little better closer attention to detail by the cleaners etc windows needed a clean, there was some damage to flooring, garden was overgrown. But overall a wonderful stay and I would book again.
Stunning property and location , extremely helpful hosts who have gone above and ... Stunning property and location , extremely helpful hosts who have gone above and beyond in providing a great place for family , highly recommend and will return
William
We found the accommodation was as per spec. Very roomy and ideal for us with a downstairs bedroom and on suite. Owner had problem with washing machine flooding earlier in the week which knocked out gaselectric oven and hob. When owner was informed she was polite and apologetic and the problem was quickly resolved by a family member and friend. Would recommend this cottage to all and would happily stay there again.
Kelvin
Great location
Fabulous property, great communication. Thank you
Just back from a week stay at the cottage, clean and tidy with plenty of space for 8 people. 2 big walk in showers and a 3rd shower over bath in the main bathroom upstairs. Good garden space and enough room for 2 cars. The only suggestion we have is that the balcony would be lovely if there was a table and couple of chairs so that we could sit and enjoy the view of the marina. This hasnt put us off though and we have already booked again to stay next year
Nice cottage in a very good location about 50 meters from the marina wall. It suited our 2 family's very well as there is a nice ground floor bedroom with shower and wc, and the upstairs with one double and 2 with twin beds plus 2 bathrooms. Watchet is a very friendly small town.
Stuart and Ceri
This cottage is in a lovely position with a great hidden garden. It was very clean and the host was friendly and helpful.
The Cottage was perfect for our needs, being a family of 6 with one dog for a 3 night break at half term. Enough space for us all to spread out as well as gather in the sitting room and dining room and with enclosed, safe garden. Watchet is a quaint historical harbour town with a good dog walking beach.
Jacqueline
There were a couple of issues with the facilities that as we were there for only a short time we worked around rather than be disturbed by potential maintenance. Both of the upstairs toilets did not flush properly but as there were two other toilets we made do. There were no lids on the recycling bins which meant we could not put out our cardboard recycling due to the weather, this is why we marked down the facilities. Also the cutlery could do with an upgrade as there is barely enough there for 6 people. And finally the standard and size of the towels could be improved, one small towel per person is inadequate. None of this particularly serious and due the relatively cheap cost of the cottage we would come back providing the toilets had been sorted. Watchet as an area is a great place to visit with lots of nice places to eat and drink, in particular the Cats Whiskers a tapas bar with some of the best food I have ever eaten and the lovely warmth of the host.
